Réunion 2006

Travelling was horrible, it´s about 9 000 km from Paris in France. After aclimatization we started to explore the island. We were charmed by the wild ocean and vulcano. We also visited waterfalls, wonderful colourful corals just few meters from the seashore etc.

Our first concert meant as a promo for the festival was at a market in a little city St. Pierre. There was the wild ocean behind our backs so the atmosfere was very unusual but great in the end. Then we had two gigs at secondary schools.

The biggest brassband in an Indian ocean Fanfare Bienmaye invited us to their rehearsal in a little pizza restaurant. The place was absolutely full with musicians but the atmosfere was wonderful. We also joined the jam session.

The festival itself took place at the end of our stay 6-8.10. The stage was amazing: on the seashore and among palm trees. We were supposed to have 2 gigs there but it started to rain and there was no roof. So the first concert took place in a club and the second one in a dining hall. So we perform with bands like Subhash, Violon Profound (France), Ziskakan (Réunion), French actor Richard Bohringer, Zenzile (France), Rajery (Madagaskar) etc.

We didn´t find the local food very insteresting: rice, lentils or beans and chicken or rarely (on the island!) fish. All this served with very spicy staff. But local rum is delicious.

When we were climbing the vulcano we discovered several Čanki traces. According to size and direction we think that it must have been a family hiking the vulcano too. We even managed to take few pictures

We brought a lot of thing with us from the island but mainly a lot of experience. Sysyn bought a string instrument from Madagaskar called valiha, Kluka and Kluka percussion called kajon and so on.

Photos are here.

You can watch few TV programmes about our expedition:
